Back to School Planner Stickers

As a teacher, I geek out about school supplies. The girls are going back for a visit with their mom for THREE WEEKS and I already miss them. How quickly they have become a pivotal part of my life. I can’t wait to take them back to school shopping and pick out First Day of School outfits. My grandma, also a teacher, has already asked to join us when we pick out their supplies.

I wanted to do some things before they left that would get them excited to come back at the end of August. So I planned haircuts, nail appointments, and back to school shopping for when they get back. I explained to them how having something to look forward to helps our mental health. Most importantly: we bought planners. We spent time searching the internet for the perfect planners. When they came, I got SO pumped, the excitement was contagious. The three of us ohhhh’d and ahhhh’d over the covers, the colors, and the pages. Then I broke out the stickers.

We started putting birthday stickers on some pages, decorated the covers, filled their planners with things that made them smile. This is something that I used to do with my co-teachers and it made me feel crazy nostalgic. Each summer, we would plan a day to hang out together and “sticker our planner”s. We would all gather around, share our stickers and washi tape, and catch up. During the school year, we saw each other more than our partners. Over the summer, that changed drastically. It felt so good to spend a day together and it would get us excited about the upcoming school year. I love that the planners could do that for my step kids too.

If you need some cheer in the middle of your day, put some stickers on something: a planner, a calendar, your face, his shoe, the cat’s bed- the options are endless. Not only are they good for your mental health, stickers are just plain fun.
