Whatcha Gonna Do With That Duck: Learn to Read and Read to Learn Summer Camp

I spent my weekend in a hospital. I had planned to use the weekend to set up my Reading Summer Camp and had to shift to work on those later in the week. My grandma went in Saturday morning with pain in her abdomen and was scheduled for emergency gall bladder removal. She is home and recovering now, feeling better than ever. I am incredibly grateful to have such a phenomenal Grandma that is also one of my best friends.

While I was sitting with my grandma, I read “Whatcha Gonna Do With That Duck?” by Seth Godin. If you need motivation, definitely read that book! In his chapter “Which of the Four Are Getting in the Way?”, he proposes four questions:

You don’t know what to do.
You don’t know how to do it.
You don’t have the authority or the resources to do it.
You’re afraid.

Seth Godin

And once you figure out which of those four are getting in the way of your success, you can adapt. I’m afraid. I’m afraid my tutoring business is falling aside as my other businesses grow. I’m afraid that I am going to let down a parent, a student, a family member, or a client. I’m afraid that it’s never going to “get easier” and I will continue replying to my friends with “Let’s catch up as soon as things calm down!”. Things aren’t calming down anytime soon. They are moving forward and getting bigger. I no longer want my fear to hold me back.

“Stuck is a state of mind, and it’s curable” Seth Godin.

I am getting myself unstuck. I am moving forward.

So I’m simplifying. As much as I can, I am still a classic first born overachiever. I want to help anyone and everyone through tutoring, meetings, and summer camp. One of the ways I am simplifying? My summer offerings for students! I have three options: one on one tutoring, Camp Learn to Read, or Camp Read to Learn. If you are interested in one on one tutoring, please click here to schedule a free consultation. Keep scrolling to learn about the camps!

Each Monday in July, start your student’s week off with an online learning session!
10-10:45 Learn to Read
11-11:45 Read to Learn

How do you know which one is the right fit for your kid? Do they know why cape says the long a sound when cap has the short a sound? If they are able to explain short and long vowel sounds, know the digraphs (th, sh, ch, wh), and can read two syllable words, then they should sign up for Summer Camp Read to Learn! We will read non fiction each week and work on some writing (Think Scholastic News but more fun and engaging).

If your child still mixes up some of their vowels (reads got instead of goat or vice versa), enroll them in Camp Learn to Read! Each week we will dive into another phoneme and spelling rule. We will have fun, and the learning will be the most multisensory online learning you have ever seen. I can’t wait to see them! Sign up for Summer Camp here:
