Mother’s Day and Prioritizing Mental Health in May

Magnificent May includes flowers, sunshine, Mother’s Day AND Mental Health Awareness Month, all wrapped up in one big, colorful package! This package can be exciting and inspiring for some while extremely triggering to others.

First up, let’s talk about moms. As part of this supermom contest, they sent out a video stating: “When I hear the word mom, ‘super’ is implied” – my brain record scratched. My inner critic cracked up, no one says: “super stepmom”. It’s typically the wicked stepmom trope instead. Moms can be the real MVPs of our lives, but not everyone gets that “ideal mom”. In reality, very few people do. I am BEYOND grateful for the phenomenal family support I have received from my mom, dad, grandma, aunts, uncles, friends, and cousins.

some my my many Magnificent Mothers!

I am even more grateful that we get to share that love with my stepdaughters.

But hold up— May is ALSO Mental Health Awareness Month. We’re not alone in this journey. Mental Health Awareness Month is like a big, virtual hug, reminding us that it’s okay to not be okay sometimes. It’s about breaking down walls, opening up conversations, and letting our true colors shine. Navigating mental health stuff can feel like trying to solve a Rubik’s Cube blindfolded. It’s confusing, frustrating, and downright messy at times. But hey, that’s where the magic happens—when we reach out, take risks, share our struggles, and realize that we’re all in this crazy game of life together.

So, here’s the deal: let’s celebrate moms like the rockstars they are, showering them with love, hugs, and maybe even a homemade card or two. And while we’re at it, let’s paint May with all the colors of mental health awareness—talking, listening, and supporting each other through the ups and downs.

So, to all the supermoms out there: you’re our sunshine on a cloudy day, our compass in a sea of confusion, and our forever heroes. And to everyone navigating the wild ride of mental health: you’re not alone, you’re loved, and your story matters more than you’ll ever know.

Here’s to embracing mom and mind—because together, we’re unstoppable. Cheers to May, the month of love, laughter, and endless possibilities! 🌼💖
