No One Wants to Help a 30 Year-Old Move

SO MUCH change is happening this month. I am moving- again, but back to my old street. The house I am moving into was my Great Grandma Ginley’s house growing up. When she died my senior year of high school, my friend’s grandma rented that house from my parents. Now that she is moving back in with one of her daughters; my partner, his girls, my dog, and I are all moving in!

It’s a little emotional for me to be moving into my Grandma’s old house. I miss her so much still. She was 89 and I was 17 when she died and I hear “at least you had that much time with her” and “she lived a long life, be happy”. But she missed all of the big events I always imagined her attending: graduation, wedding, first house, etc. My partner is being absolutely amazing with helping me through this. He is determined to make it feel like “our house” instead of her house. Which has led to the biggest project of my life.

Yesterday, Keith spent the entire day working on the house. After I finished tutoring, I joined him. My mom and dad came over too. Dad and Keith took out all of the carpet. Mom worked on peeling that border off the living room walls. All four of us were working together. I was so happy, I was dancing as I painted the kitchen. ๐Ÿ˜‚

I am NOT handy- shocker. I don’t know the first thing when it comes to fixing up houses or DIY anything. When I moved into my first house with my last partner, we had to hire people to do all of the things we wanted done. It was done really well, but it is a totally different feeling being a part of it myself. Thank GOD that she blessed Keith with these skills and that he is so freaking helpful. We are tearing out all of the floors and repainting everything. Replacing all of the wood work, outlets, and so on and so forth. This process has been so therapeutic for me. I feel like I’m able to spend this time reflecting on the love that I have felt in that house and look forward to the love that will continue to grow there.

BTW: If anyone ever needs to get a border off a wall, use a spray mixture of vinegar, dawn dish soap, and water. NOT an iron. That sh*t did some wall damage and took hours.
